Michigan is a gorgeous state that does not lack in beauty when it comes to state parks. A newer state park to add to the wonderful list of places to visit and adventure to is Duck Lake State Park!
About The Park
Located in Whitehall, Michigan, Duck Lake State Park sits just a few hundred feet inland from Lake Michigan. While there is plenty of Lake Michigan shoreline to have fun on, the park itself lies on 728 acres of forested areas, its own sandy beaches, a large protected sand dune, and meadows.
Things To Do
Come hike through the forested trails and breathe in the fresh air! It’s a perfect way to bring out the nature observer in you!
Splash in the lake with your family and friends! Since Duck Lake runs into Lake Michigan, you can find warm, bath-like water where the two lakes meet. There is a beach house to provide shade on sunny days and sandy beaches to wiggle your toes in! Kick back and relax, sun bathe, and swim the day away!
Grab your pole and some bait and hit the lake! Species that swim around in the lake include bass, pan fish, crappie, and much more! Test out your fly-fishing skills and get some bluegill on your line!
Power boating is allowed on Duck Lake for all you boaters out there! Hang out on your boat and spend the day tubing, water skiing, and wake boarding! Want a simpler ride? Grab your paddles, canoe, kayak, or paddle board and explore the lake!
As the leaves change colors and start to fall, you can bet hunters will make their way here! Only part of the park opens up for hunting and only if you have the proper permits. You can find people out hunting for deer, duck, rabbit, woodcock, pheasant, goose, and squirrel.
Don’t worry; there is plenty to do when the snow falls! Try your luck at ice fishing, cruise the snow-covered trails on your snowmobile, or take a quiet path for cross-country skiing!
Duck Lake doesn’t offer on-site camping, but don’t fret! Located within 15 miles of the state park are several campgrounds. Right off of US-31, east of Duck Lake, is Duck Creek RV Resort. It has high reviews and is great for families of all ages. South of Duck Lake is Pioneer County Park. Stationed by Lake Michigan, this campground offers beaches, sports courts and fields for horseshoes or Frisbee 500, and picnicking. North of Duck Lake is Trailway Campground. It sits in the town of Montague and offers full hookups for RVs.
