What You’ll Need:
- Painter’s tape
- Chalkboard paint
- Painting tray
- Roller brush
- Thin artist’s brush
Step 1: Sandpaper your door The chalkboard paint will best adhere to a smooth surface, so if your door is rough or if it bares a glossy sheen, rub over it with 120-200 grit size sandpaper until it is smooth and de-glossed.
Step 2: Clean off the door Using basic household cleaners, remove any dust or dirt from your door as this could negatively affect the adhesion. Wipe the door clean with a lint-free towel and allow time for it to dry.
Step 3: Tape the door frame Outline the door frame with your painter’s tape to avoid getting paint on areas where you don’t want it. Make sure the tape is firmly attached so that paint cannot seep in beneath it.
Step 4: Start painting Pour your chalkboard paint into your painting tray and roll it on, starting at the center of the door and working your way out. Switch to the thin brush once you get close to the edges.
Step 5: Dry and reapply After the door is fully painted, let it dry. Although two coats are recommended, you might find that one coat does the job. Apply a second coat if needed. If not, move on to the next step!
Step 6: Admire your work Carefully remove your painter’s tape and stand back to admire a job well done. Then go fetch some chalk and get creative! And just like that your door becomes more than just a means of entry into your RV! Now it can be used as an interactive message board, an accessible grocery list, or as a scoreboard during family game night!
